Renoma was the first steel framed department store building in Europe constructed in 1933. It was devastated during the war and rebuilt. In 2004 plans to completely refurbish it and construct an extension were started by developer DTC. UK retail specialist Benoy and Polish architect Zbyzek Mackow (MPP) were the architectural team to design the new Renoma.
Peter Challoner was involved at the beginning of the design stage working on redesigning the internal layout of the building to harmoniously relate to the historic façade and key features of the existing building yet create an internal environment to suit the modern day requirements of both customers and retailers.
Working closely alongside the execution architects, Peter's experience of design and detailing enabled a successful resolution with the Historic Conservator to create a contemporary building interior that was respectful to the history of the building.
